Playlists

I lay there on that striped towel, half-dozing while the warmth did its work, and I caught myself smiling for no reason I could name. Well... no reason I was willing to name out loud. The sea kept its rhythm, people wandered past without knowing a thing, and I simply let myself exist in my own skin for once. As someone who studied art history, I should probably compare this to a reclining nude in a museum somewhere, but that feels far too grand. This was just a woman, a quiet beach, and someone with a camera who makes her feel worth looking at.

This afternoon in May, I started on the towel, black string bikini fully on, legs crossed, pretending to be patient while the heat did its work. The ocean was right there, a couple at a distance, and me in this tiny scrap of black fabric that felt more like a suggestion than clothing.
"New suit, same troublemaker energy" — that was the truth of it. The black against my skin, the way it absorbed the sun... I was already plotting what came next before I even stood up.
